Barbie goes to Versailles

Chapter 21

When Barbie goes to Versailles

This fourth look from the Haute Couture Last Queen collection features a tulle underskirt and dress.

The petticoat, like a peony, is composed of a multitude of layers of gradient pink tulle (800 meters of tulle) covered with a final layer of fuchsia gradient petal pink chiffon.

The whole is gathered at the waist to create an 18th-century vertugadin.

The short-sleeved dress is in soft pink tulle. It is gathered at the back, with stop-cords for an up-to-date look. The dress is embroidered with a multitude of chandelier motifs, a signature of Maison Julien Fournié Haute Couture, transparent crystal beads, silver threads and glittering aurora borealis-colored crystals.

The dress is adorned at the waist with peonies in silk organiza and gradient pink feathers.

The earrings and Ex-Voto brooch are in crystallized gunmetal. In the center, a mysterious cabochon is in faceted fuchsia crystal. On the earrings, a heart pendant is in soft pink crystal.

The new version of the Pollux tote bag features a changing aurora borealis fabric screen-printed with the Hexagon monogram, the signature of Maison Julien Fournié. The monogram is in the colors of Princess Peach from the video game Mario Bros. This Tote Bag is finished in Azur blue, Marie Antoinette’s favorite color.

The capeline is in peony raffia. It is accessorized with roses in coordinating silk organza.

Elza Matiz is the ultimate Barbie, coming to Versailles in all her finery.

A Margot Robbie look-alike, we had fun adding a blond to her look with Jack from Salon Neville.

As for Nicolas Degennes, he enhanced his eighteenth-century make-up with a line of eyeliner that was very much of the ’50s.

Thank you, Elza, for your enthusiasm and professionalism. You made one of my childhood dreams come true.

Marie Antoinette or not, “contemporary women are all queens of unique”

elle
Marie Antoinette or not, contemporary women are all queens of unique and singular beauty, whatever their style of dress.

… In the small autumn/winter 2024-2025 Haute Couture collection “The Last Queen”, which I presented at the Grevin Museum at the end of June, I tried to shed light on the role of Marie Antoinette in fashion history.

The models, interpreted in a modern way in the spirit of her personality, reflect the different styles I like to see in contemporary women.

Two romantic dresses in canary yellow and soft pinks, which seem to have come from the 18th century, decorated with delicate Versailles embroidery and beautiful handmade flowers, underline the versatility of the queen’s codes.

My signature jackets, perfectly cut and this time luxuriously embroidered, are a reminder that she was the first to dare to incorporate menswear elements into her wardrobe.

The sleeves of a black, rock-style dress in sheer tulle and the matching leggings were embroidered with tattoos that wittily interpreted some of the details of Marie Antoinette’s legend: the much-criticised predilection for the appearance of a demure “shepherdess” or the white cakes that were never made, the sincere love for a husband, a son…”

Fournié dressed her in armour, made of sturdy, high-quality leather, usually used for handbags, covered by a magnificent cloak with black crystal embroidery, and her head adorned with a never-before seen leather crown.

In this way, he emphasised the power and growing influence of contemporary women. For the designer, they are all queens of a unique, distinctive beauty, whatever their style of dress.

Anna Druzyaka is one of the Incroyables and merveilleuses who takes the masculine attributes of the fallen court and turns them into a revolutionary Parisian look.

Let’s salute the impeccable cut of the pants made by Jacqueline Eme, in the workshops of Maison Julien Fournié Haute Couture.

Nicolas Degennes intensified Anna’s blue eyes with a strong, defined eyebrow. Her mouth is magnified by a touch of soft pink lipstick applied with a finger for a natural effect.

Jack from Neville Salon worked Anna’s hair into big Hollywood curls on one side, reminiscent of actress Veronica Lake’s hairstyle.

Thanks to Ekaterina Grangier, a talented milliner, for this bicorne made in the Artnuptia workshops.

The set is in three-tone parma, pink and azure marquetry in saddle-stitched grained leather.

Fleur-de-lys inlays in metallic leather, silver and side reinforcements with metal eyelets adorn the ensemble.

The royal crown and fleur-de-lys details on the shoes are in leather inlay, matching the corset armor.

This corset-armor is worn with a trench coat with low flaps and pagoda sleeves in washed parma-gray flowing silk.

The coat is embroidered with sparkling academician motifs in smoked crystal beads and aged silver threads. The lining is lilac silk satin.

This first look from the Last Queen Haute Couture collection is completed with the new Bubble Gum big bang bag.

The ex-voto earrings are in crystallized gunmetal. At the center is a mysterious cabochon in faceted electric blue crystal, changing to violet. A heart pendant is in fuchsia crystal.

Diva is the warrior queen of the Haute Couture Last Queen collection.

Her boyish look evokes the knights who defended queens in fairy tales.

Diva looks like a manga character, in a glamorous representation of French history.

Jack from Salon Neville pulled her black hair back into a ponytail, giving Diva a triumphant cavalier edge.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE JULIEN FOURNIÉ HOUSE Events

Backstage at the Last Queen Haute Couture show

Fashion show backstage, Last Queen Haute Couture Collection.

Fashion show Backstage photos of the Haute Couture Last Queen collection at the Musée Grévin during Haute Couture Week.

The Last Queen Collection

For His new Haute Couture collection you’ve seen backstage fashion shows, Julien Fournié pays tribute to Marie-Antoinette, the last queen of France, at the Paris-based Musée Grévin.

She is the undisputed initiator of all Haute Couture.

“Whatever one thinks about her role in History,. Marie-Antoinette was a model of style for all the courts of Europe. She has started the movement at the very origin of fashion: preferring what is new to what has always been considered beautiful.”

Julien Fournié

Contacted by the Grévin Museum management to create an outfit for the statue of Marie-Antoinette “in her full majesty,” Julien Fournié wanted to restore the splendor of her life in Versailles and to make a statement about her as a fashion icon, a status which the last queen of France has acquired for more than two centuries as the first genuine influencer.

To accompany this event, the French couturier also presents six looks inspired by the codes of the legend of Marie-Antoinette, declined in today’s Haute Couture pieces showcasing the work of the best artisans. It includes, of course, corsets and ball gowns with huge volumes, but also looks flirting with masculine suits on feminine silhouettes,
The first look of this Haute Couture collection presents, under a long trench coat in plum washed silk, embroidered with old silver plant motifs, an ensemble entirely made of saddle-style leather, in various dear to Marie-Antoinette pastel shades. This training outfit also includes fleur-de-lis inlays on the pants, and flat bow ornaments on the bustier. A leather crown with medallions and royal gaiters complete this outfit.

The new Big bang Bag

Accessories also feature prominently in the Haute Couture collection you’ve seen backstage fashion shows: “Ex Voto” earrings and brooches, the brand’s monogrammed tote bag in “lenticular” coated canvas, and three versions of the new “Big Bang” bag in the tender colors of the 18th century.

A pant suit, cut in a Prince of Wales wool in bright colors, comes enhanced with lilacs embroideries. It is paired with a lavallere silk blouse and a bicorn hat, decorated with a feather arrow and brooch in the style of “Incroyables”.
A “boyish” azure jacket, embroidered with silver, over a short silk and lurex nightie, reveals the the legs’ full length barely covered with “nude” sheer leggings embroidered with royal jewels.

A wide embroidered ball gown swirls and reveals a mix of peony, soft pink and sweetbriar tones on multiple precious layers of sheer fabrics.
To mark the diversity and universality of the Marie-Antoinette style, a flowery bustier in shades of canary yellow adorned with matching roses and jewelry tops a giant petticoat of matching tulles on the ebony body of Toby Momoh, a Julien Fournié muse.

The last look in this Haute Couture collection you’ve seen backstage fashion show reinterprets embroidered elements of the legend surrounding the last queen of France: as shepherdess, pastry lover, mother in love with her son, and playing with her coat of arms, a ll as if hand sketched like Asian anime in tattoo style. They flourish on a “gothic rockabily” look cinched by a black crystal embroidered black jacket with a crater collar and split basque.

The highlight of the Haute Couture collection you’ve seen fashion show backstage is only revealed at the finale: Queen Marie-Antoinette’s majestic court costume includes a corset decorated with embroidered bows, a skirt, an overskirt, ruffled sleeves, in bright white silk triple organza, embellished with sparkling embroidery in various shades of silver and moon gold recalling the queen’s favorite musical instruments, symbols of the French royals and the motifs of Versailles. Ribbons, feathers and pearls enliven her hair, topped with a sparkling flocked galleon with embroidered sails featuring the French monarch’s symbol. Julien Fournié also wanted to return to the Queen of France a replica of the famous necklace from the “Affair” which Marie-Antoinette never actually wore…

This new statue of Queen Marie-Antoinette now stands among the permanent collections of the wax Museum, in the Coupole at Grévin, which has brought together the characters of “Grévin Fashion” since 2014,

From June 28th to September 1, 2024, the six looks from the Julien Fournié’s “Last Queen” Haute Couture collection you’ve seen fashion show backstage will remain on display in this same place so that a wider audience can admire up close and in complete freedom Haute Couture knowhow.

“I was very happy to make this luxury accessible to a popular audience eager for fashion culture, especially at a time when Paris is welcoming the world for the Olympic Games.”

Last Queen the new Haute Couture collection

Last Queen Haute Couture collection

Tuesday, June 25, 2024 presentation Grévin Wax Museum

For His new Haute Couture Collection, Julien Fournié pays tribute to Marie-Antoinette, the last queen of France, at the Paris-based Musée Grévin.

Accessories also feature prominently in the collection: “Ex Voto” earrings and brooches, the brand’s monogrammed tote bag in “lenticular” coated canvas, and three versions of the new “Big Bang” bag in the tender colors of the 18th century.

The last look in this Haute Couture collection reinterprets embroidered elements of the legend surrounding the last queen of France: as shepherdess, pastry lover, mother in love with her son, and playing with her coat of arms, a ll as if hand sketched like Asian anime in tattoo style. They flourish on a “gothic rockabily” look cinched by a black crystal embroidered black jacket with a crater collar and split basque.

The highlight of the show is only revealed at the finale: Queen Marie-Antoinette’s majestic court costume includes a corset decorated with embroidered bows, a skirt, an overskirt, ruffled sleeves, in bright white silk triple organza, embellished with sparkling embroidery in various shades of silver and moon gold recalling the queen’s favorite musical instruments, symbols of the French royals and the motifs of Versailles.

From June 28th to September 1, 2024, the six looks from the Julien Fournié’s “Last Queen” Haute Couture collection will remain on display in this same place so that a wider audience can admire up close and in complete freedom Haute Couture knowhow.

“I was very happy to make this luxury accessible to a popular audience eager for fashion culture, especially at a time when Paris is welcoming the world for the Olympic Games.”

The First Vamps Haute Couture Collection by photographer Delphine Royer

The First Vamps Haute Couture collection photographed by Delphine Royer.

“Glossy” lips on sharp fangs, Julien Fournié reconnects with the codes of fantasy to celebrate the power of women for his new Haute Couture collection. Each design here represents a subtle blend of sensuality and mystery. Each piece, designed with meticulous precision, enhances reach lady’s particular seduction.

As conscious temptresses, these femmes fatales use all their finery to assert themselves and charm. Far from any spirit of submission or cheap romanticism, they raise their heads and frankly dare display their sharply cut silhouette.
Luxurious fabrics and impeccable finishings add to the sophistication. The first look sets the tone with a Parisian elegance note, made of freedom and originality; in a unique black feather tweed – the result of a collaboration with feather artist Julien Vermeulen – Julien Fournié profiles a mid-calf sheath, a sumptuous and delicate shell for the body.

Followed by textile sculptures in Prince-of-Wales, denim, panther printed leather play with asymmetry, oversized Victorian sleeves, shaded or embroidered transparencies and anatomical inlays, to reinterpret the entire feminine wardrobe in a suit, a uniform with futuristic cutouts, a short trench coat, an embroidered jacket … so many occasions to give back to each piece its playful, festive and graceful dimension.

Like the models who wear them, the pieces adorned with flowers both attract and impress. These mandrakes intimate respect with touches on a neckline, or in a generous bouquet on the hipline. A real spell of embroidery is summoned on a jacket worn on bare skin with seamed stockings and impetuous heels. The bramble of a carnivorous plant born from a fantastic imagination takes possession of a metallic corset, On the evening sheaths, glittering petals of giant flowers deploy their dangerous attraction.

Embroidery becomes a major asset here. Julien Fournié imposes it for all ages and conditions. Far from reserving his style to young girls only, Julien Fournié dares to imagine for Michaela Tomanova – his seven months pregnant muse – a jersey evening sheath built on a fully embroidered harness over the shoulders.
In the Fournié universe, women use accessories as assets of voluptuousness: from the House’s signature embroidered bags to the dizzying stilettos, from the suspender belts to gloves. They even boast lace parasols to add up to their charm.

The bride expresses her desire and dares sheer embroidered tulle to conquer her bridegroom. Clearly, she activates the magic of attraction to express her love.

“With this Haute Collection collection celebrating our House’s 15th anniversary, I wanted to recapture the joy, the fantasy, the lightness that is missing today,” declares Julien Fournié. “Yes, clothing can help you transcend anxiety-provoking climates and assert your personality without taboos.”
