Barbie goes to Versailles

Chapter 21

When Barbie goes to Versailles

This fourth look from the Haute Couture Last Queen collection features a tulle underskirt and dress.

The petticoat, like a peony, is composed of a multitude of layers of gradient pink tulle (800 meters of tulle) covered with a final layer of fuchsia gradient petal pink chiffon.

The whole is gathered at the waist to create an 18th-century vertugadin.

The short-sleeved dress is in soft pink tulle. It is gathered at the back, with stop-cords for an up-to-date look. The dress is embroidered with a multitude of chandelier motifs, a signature of Maison Julien Fournié Haute Couture, transparent crystal beads, silver threads and glittering aurora borealis-colored crystals.

The dress is adorned at the waist with peonies in silk organiza and gradient pink feathers.

The earrings and Ex-Voto brooch are in crystallized gunmetal. In the center, a mysterious cabochon is in faceted fuchsia crystal. On the earrings, a heart pendant is in soft pink crystal.

The new version of the Pollux tote bag features a changing aurora borealis fabric screen-printed with the Hexagon monogram, the signature of Maison Julien Fournié. The monogram is in the colors of Princess Peach from the video game Mario Bros. This Tote Bag is finished in Azur blue, Marie Antoinette’s favorite color.

The capeline is in peony raffia. It is accessorized with roses in coordinating silk organza.

Elza Matiz is the ultimate Barbie, coming to Versailles in all her finery.

A Margot Robbie look-alike, we had fun adding a blond to her look with Jack from Salon Neville.

As for Nicolas Degennes, he enhanced his eighteenth-century make-up with a line of eyeliner that was very much of the ’50s.

Thank you, Elza, for your enthusiasm and professionalism. You made one of my childhood dreams come true.

Marie Antoinette or not, “contemporary women are all queens of unique”

elle
Marie Antoinette or not, contemporary women are all queens of unique and singular beauty, whatever their style of dress.

… In the small autumn/winter 2024-2025 Haute Couture collection “The Last Queen”, which I presented at the Grevin Museum at the end of June, I tried to shed light on the role of Marie Antoinette in fashion history.

The models, interpreted in a modern way in the spirit of her personality, reflect the different styles I like to see in contemporary women.

Two romantic dresses in canary yellow and soft pinks, which seem to have come from the 18th century, decorated with delicate Versailles embroidery and beautiful handmade flowers, underline the versatility of the queen’s codes.

My signature jackets, perfectly cut and this time luxuriously embroidered, are a reminder that she was the first to dare to incorporate menswear elements into her wardrobe.

The sleeves of a black, rock-style dress in sheer tulle and the matching leggings were embroidered with tattoos that wittily interpreted some of the details of Marie Antoinette’s legend: the much-criticised predilection for the appearance of a demure “shepherdess” or the white cakes that were never made, the sincere love for a husband, a son…”

Fournié dressed her in armour, made of sturdy, high-quality leather, usually used for handbags, covered by a magnificent cloak with black crystal embroidery, and her head adorned with a never-before seen leather crown.

In this way, he emphasised the power and growing influence of contemporary women. For the designer, they are all queens of a unique, distinctive beauty, whatever their style of dress.

This second look from the Last Queen Haute Couture collection is composed of three mismatched pieces.

A men’s double-breasted jacket in vintage 1940s prince de galles, khaki and fine blue stripes, embroidered with a cane motif in bronze and silver crystal tubes adorned with wisteria embroidery with a 3D effect in gradient silk.

Coordinating men’s vest.

The men’s tuxedo pants are high-waisted with large flat pleats in bronze wool serge.

The ensemble is worn over a lavaliere blouse with ruffled sleeves and ruched effect, in silk chiffon printed with eighteenth-century floral motifs and grand century gold jacquard patterns.

The earrings and Ex-Voto brooch are in crystallized gunmetal. In the center, a mysterious cabochon is in faceted pink-changing emerald crystal.

A heart pendant is in aurora borealis crystal.

The ebony rabane bicorne hat is accessorized with a feather arrow.

Anna Druzyaka is one of the Incroyables and merveilleuses who takes the masculine attributes of the fallen court and turns them into a revolutionary Parisian look.

Let’s salute the impeccable cut of the pants made by Jacqueline Eme, in the workshops of Maison Julien Fournié Haute Couture.

Nicolas Degennes intensified Anna’s blue eyes with a strong, defined eyebrow. Her mouth is magnified by a touch of soft pink lipstick applied with a finger for a natural effect.

Jack from Neville Salon worked Anna’s hair into big Hollywood curls on one side, reminiscent of actress Veronica Lake’s hairstyle.

Thanks to Ekaterina Grangier, a talented milliner, for this bicorne made in the Artnuptia workshops.

The warrior queen of the Last Queen Haute Couture Collection

Chapter 19, the warrior queen

The first look in the Last Queen collection features an 18th-century-style corset-armor with 3D effects, lassée in the back and pants.

The set is in three-tone parma, pink and azure marquetry in saddle-stitched grained leather.

Fleur-de-lys inlays in metallic leather, silver and side reinforcements with metal eyelets adorn the ensemble.

The royal crown and fleur-de-lys details on the shoes are in leather inlay, matching the corset armor.

This corset-armor is worn with a trench coat with low flaps and pagoda sleeves in washed parma-gray flowing silk.

The coat is embroidered with sparkling academician motifs in smoked crystal beads and aged silver threads. The lining is lilac silk satin.

This first look from the Last Queen Haute Couture collection is completed with the new Bubble Gum big bang bag.

The ex-voto earrings are in crystallized gunmetal. At the center is a mysterious cabochon in faceted electric blue crystal, changing to violet. A heart pendant is in fuchsia crystal.

Diva is the warrior queen of the Haute Couture Last Queen collection.

Her boyish look evokes the knights who defended queens in fairy tales.

Diva looks like a manga character, in a glamorous representation of French history.

Nicolas Degennes highlighted her black eye with futuristic eyeliner for a killer look, but powdered her pink to keep her angelic side.

Jack from Salon Neville pulled her black hair back into a ponytail, giving Diva a triumphant cavalier edge.
