The flap is powder-grained satin, its muted, chalky tone recalling the pigments of another century. Across its surface, grand siècle motifs unfold: architectural ornaments, foliate scrolls, the decorative vocabulary of seventeenth-century France rendered not in their original grandeur but in a state of beautiful dissolution.
