The House of Julien Fourni\u00e9 never discounts its luxury handbags, and never destroys unsold stock. For a simple reason: there is nothing to discount, and nothing to destroy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A discounted bag is not a gift to the customer. It is the admission of a production error. A house that marks down in January what it sold at full price in November is saying two things: that it made too many, and that the November price was inflated. Both are true at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We chose not to put ourselves in that position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What the house actually makes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Haute Couture bags are one-of-a-kind pieces. A single example of each, drawn by hand by Julien Fourni\u00e9, embroidered by hand. There is no second example to clear out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hexagon line is the only one the house produces as a series. A small series. When a series is finished, it is not reissued and it is not marked down. It is simply finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between the two, the Premier and Big Bang lines, the totes and the Pluton clutches are made in quantities set in advance, against real demand \u2014 not against a growth forecast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arithmetic of destruction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The luxury industry destroyed its unsold stock for years. The logic was well known: better to burn than to discount, to protect the brand’s perceived value. In France, the AGEC law now prohibits it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the ban solves nothing at source. It treats the symptom. The problem is not the destruction \u2014 it is the overproduction that makes destruction necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A house that does not overproduce has no stock to destroy. Nor does it need to manufacture artificial scarcity, because the scarcity is real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What this means for you<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The price on the tag is the price. It will not drop in six weeks. You never buy at the wrong moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Premier bag bought today at \u20ac785 will not reappear at half price next month, devaluing yours in the process. A Haute Couture bag at \u20ac3,790 will remain a unique piece: no one else will carry the same one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also what makes the object traceable over time. A house that does not manufacture at open volume knows every one of its models, and can take it back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A constraint before it is an argument<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Not discounting forces you to get as little wrong as possible upstream: the quantities, the materials, the drawing. Every element has been weighed, precisely because none of them can be marked down later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the rule of the Haute Couture atelier, applied to leather goods: nothing approximate, and nothing in excess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
